What is yoga?
Yoga is one of the six systems in Indian philosophy. The word “yoga” means “union” in Sanskrit, representing the union of the Individual Self with the Universal Self, as well as the union of the body, mind, emotions, and intellect.
Who is Patanjali?
Pantanjali was an Indian scholar who compiled the Yoga Sutras, a collection of short yoga aphorisms that are the foundation of Raja Yoga. Although it is widely agreed that yoga existed before Patanjali, his concise Yoga Sutras are important tools for understanding yoga philosophy. They have become some of the most important yoga texts in history. Pantanjali probably lived around 2 B.C. He may also have written two other important historical works around the same time as the Yoga Sutras – one on grammar and one on Ayurvedic medicine.
